About Us

Serving the Underserved

We provide low-income and uninsured citizens residing in Lubbock, TX with free medical screening care. Our tests are used by our partner physicians to detect the precursory symptoms of diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia, which pose many medical complications and indicate future risk of heart attack and stroke. Our healthcare professionals review each patient's results and refer them to local free clinics for follow-up care.

Our History

33,000 adults in Lubbock have been diagnosed with diabetes, and 85,000 more have been identified as pre-diabetic. Over 32% of Lubbock adults have been diagnosed with high blood pressure, and these numbers are rising at alarming rates. RMSS was founded in 2019 with the goal of detecting these diseases, and more, in low-income, homeless, and uninsured individuals. In doing so, we hope to lower the risk of cardiovascular disease in these vulnerable populations.

Our Why

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death among Americans. Public health studies have revealed disparities between low-income and middle/high-income individuals in accessing insurance and medical care. Because of these barriers low-income patients face when accessing care, the prevalence of cardiovascular disease among this income group is shockingly higher than others. Low-income, homeless, and uninsured individuals do not have access to consistent medical care, leading to many undiagnosed cardiovascular disease risk factors in communities. We strive to bridge this gap.

How We Do It

We host screenings on a weekly basis around Lubbock, TX. Local homeless shelters, churches, and community action centers serve as our facilities. Our trained member screeners take vitals and perform a lipid panel/glucose test on every patient. We also provide A1C tests for pre-diabetic and diabetic patients. These results are then reviewed by our healthcare professionals, and a course of action and treatment is recommended to our patients during a consultation. All services are provided free of charge.

Our Community Partners

The Lubbock Dream Center is a community action organization dedicated to creating positive change in Lubbock.

First United Methodist Church is home to the Second Helpings food outreach program, which provides the less fortunate with free meals. We partner with FUMC during their Saturday Second Helpings.

Grace Campus is a transitional homeless shelter. The mission of Grace Campus is to inspire hope, instill value, and equip the homeless in our local Lubbock community.
